Get your vehicle inspected quickly and easily. A Plus Auto Glass is an official Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) vehicle inspection station.
// Required for Registration
Keep Your Vehicle Legal in Houston
In the state of Texas, you cannot renew your vehicle’s annual registration without first passing a comprehensive safety (and in Harris County, emissions) inspection.
The Texas DPS mandates these inspections to ensure that all vehicles driving on busy roads like I-10 and Loop 610 meet basic safety and environmental standards.
At A Plus Auto Glass, we know your time is valuable. We provide fast, honest, and officially certified State Inspections. Our goal is to get you in, get your vehicle thoroughly checked according to DPS regulations, issue your passing Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR), and get you back on the road so you can complete your “Two Steps, One Sticker” registration process.

Will a Cracked Windshield Fail Inspection?
Because A Plus Auto Glass is Houston’s premier auto glass shop, we are frequently asked if a cracked windshield will automatically fail a state inspection.
The short answer: Not necessarily, but it depends on the severity.
According to Texas DPS rules, a windshield will fail inspection if:- The glass is completely shattered.
A cracked area causes a convex/concave distortion that interferes with the driver’s vision.
The crack is severe enough that the windshield wipers will drag or catch on the glass.
However, if your windshield is damaged to the point of structural failure, or if you simply want it fixed for your own safety before the inspection, you are in the right place! We can seamlessly combine your Windshield Replacement or Rock Chip Repair with your annual State Inspection during the same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions About TX Inspections
What do I need to bring for my inspection?
You must bring your vehicle and a current, valid proof of auto insurance (a physical card or a digital copy on your phone).
If my Check Engine light is on, will I fail?
Yes. If your vehicle is subject to an emissions test (required in Harris and surrounding counties) and the Check Engine light is illuminated, it results in an automatic failure of the OBDII test.
Do you offer mobile State Inspections?
No. By Texas law, all official state inspections and emissions testing must be performed at our physical, state-certified inspection station in Houston.
